WE ARE OLD

e are old is a trio operating at the intersection of complex rhythmic structures and distilled musical ideas. Alto saxophonist Elio Amberg, double bassist Xaver Rüegg and drummer Paul Amereller have been working together for over five years, developing a precise, dynamic and clearly identifiable band sound.

Their music moves fluidly between composed material and improvisation, shaped by repetition, abstraction and a strong, energetic pulse. Form and intention are central, while the music remains open, flexible and alive in the moment. The trio’s interplay is marked by focus, physicality and a shared sense of direction, allowing detailed structures to unfold with urgency and clarity.

Moving between composition and improvisation, We are old creates music shaped by abstraction, repetition and rhythmic clarity. The trio’s sound is precise yet open, unfolding with urgency and strong formal intent.
